Sermonic Example: There are several distinct ways that one can use illustrative material. In this case, we are going to use the highlighted words of the promotional advertisement.
. . . .. . . .
“Zero Shock” is a corporation that produces those immense airbags used in the performance of Hollywood stunts — stunts that make would have killed the individual performing them, were it not for the fact that what is not seen are these oversized and immense airbags positioned below.
Zero Shock advertises their product by saying this . . .
“Zero Shock impact safety platforms ensure a soft landing that cradles the impact and keeps the person safe.”
They go on to say that . . .
“the Zero Shock inflatable air bags are versatile and can accommodate more than one person landing at a time.”
And they also highlight another feature of their product . . . .
“The bags reset instantly meaning once one person has climbed off another can jump.
You will find that in the Scriptures, there are no such products that promise a soft landing, or even ensure keeping God’s people unhurt. You see, the writers of Hebrews states that people who exercised great faith died during days of trial and trouble.
There were no “Zero Shock” bags that could accommodate any single saint, no less two people — or an army. There were no Sero Shock bags that instantly reset to protect the next person or for the next trial of one’s faith.
At times, we fail to remind ourselves that people died in battle. Some of God’s people died after entering the Promised Land, after the walls of Jericho had fallen and entered the city. Men died even after Goliath had fallen at the hands of David and his sling. Just read Hebrews 11:36.
There are very few biblical examples of “Zero Shock,” even in the best of situations. Yes, there were situations where the Lord defeated the enemy by His own power — II Kings 19:35. Israel did cross the Red Sea with Zero loss of life. But you will not find many other such accounts in the Old or New Testament.
The safety that was — and is promised — was and is that they would be eternally safe, that they would be cradled in the hands of Jesus going in it, through it, and at the end of it. . . .
