    “Priest holes,” another precursor to the panic room, were designed to hide Catholic priests during the 17th century, when persecution of Catholics was at its height in England.” [1]

  • In 2021-2022 — “The demand for panic rooms is booming.” [2]

  • Built for private residences, and corporate premises
  • 1,000% increase in the first three months of 2022
  • Converting a walk-in closet, build a complete panic room, or make it part of a new build and even build it into the foundation of your new home
  • Cost:  $50,000 – $100,000 — up to 1 million dollars
  • The door cost between $2,500 and up!
  • Include plumbing, specialized HVAC systems, hidden escape tunnels, food storage, and hidden passageways, wine storage [3]

  • The Sociological/Psychological Impetus: Causes & concerns about. . . Increasing crime, weather phenomena, terrorism, gun violence, the possibility of a nuclear war, doomsday reports — The concerns may be real or perceived!
  • Some include the use of Kevlar
  • Many websites on how to build a panic room in your home [4]

    A whiff of danger — real or perceived — can lead to big-time safety spending.” [5]
